My passion is the sensory aesthetic – things like the sparkle in a truly joyful person’s eyes, the shapes and shades created by a swirling cape, or the youthful vibrancy of green growing things. I thrive in transforming aesthetics into events and activities that infuse an aura of magic into otherwise ordinary life, and to immerse people in the experience of it. I was designing theme parties and “mysteries” before escape rooms became popular, and I am well reputed for adding a bit of extravagance wherever I find the opportunity.
However, it was as we cut into the cake at the Rainbow Rat Races (aka my daughter’s 15th birthday party), when I realized how poorly I was preserving memories of the spirit and energy of these activities. My sister (also a bit of an eccentric artist) had not just baked a cake; she had created a confectionary masterpiece. It was a fairy filled garden of sugary vines and flowers, and when you cut into it you literally exposed a vibrant rainbow of cakey sweetness. Oh, that poor cake! It deserved so much more than hasty phone snapshots surrounded by a stuff-crammed table. It was at that moment that I realized how much I wanted to create images worthy of the animated colourfulness of the Rainbow Rat Races, and of all the participating Racer guests.
Fast forward to today: I have 10 years experience and a Certificate in photography, and a brain teeming with ideas. Previous to photography, I was educated in and enjoyed a career in business and operational management, giving me an extensive background I can draw on to advise on professional, client-based services. All I need are like-minded people who appreciate the extraordinary, and who want to conspire in image creation with me. Helping people to envision a theme, innovate backgrounds and outfits that are as subtle or outlandish as is uniquely them, and have fun taking photographs of it all - how magical is it to do that everyday?
